The PODScan (Planar Optical Dropsizer )provides full planar drop sizes in consumer sprays, fuel injectors, urea dosers, and spray nozzles. The PODScan measures the extinction and scattering of light from multiple view angles. These measurements are used to estimate the planar Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) of the drops within the spray. The PODScan measures the extinction and scattering of light from multiple view angles and multiple projections at each view angle. These measurements are used in a deconvolution algorithm to calculate the first two moments of drop sizes within the plane. For the deconvolution, the system assumes a Rossin-Ramler, Lognormal, or a Gaussian distribution (user specified) for the particles. In addition to the full planar drop sizes, the PODScan provides the local drop surface area density within the spray using extinction tomography.
