The soot probe is an intrusive probe that can be used to determine soot concentrations in overfire regions of large scale fires and within exhaust chimneys.

  • Soot volume range: 0.1 to 50 PPM
  • Max. environmental temperature: 1000 K
  • Response time: 2 ms
  • Water cooled for immersion in hot soot layer
  • Measure multiple stations simultaneously

  • Determining soot concentrations in upper layer of large scale burns in rooms and buildings
  • Estimating the opacity at different locations inside exhaust chimneys

The extinction of a laser light is measured across a 50 mm gap. The extinction is converted to soot volume fractions using the refractive indices of soot.
